Give your ESL students a list of synonyms and antonyms for the vocabulary terms at random. This task should be put last because you want your ESL students to comprehend the meaning of each word rather than simply matching it to a term they already know.  Teaching synonyms and antonyms also provide your ESL learners with additional vocabulary development and an understanding of word connections.

ESL Students can accomplish far more than memorize a list of words and their explanations if they apply a little imagination and engage their brain matter. Stay creative teacher!
