Eliciting vocabulary is another method for students to learn vocabulary. Here are tips we can use for it.
SYNONYMS
Synonyms can help ESL students keep their vocabulary. When s ESL students usually use the term “fast” rather than the word “quick”, it may be fair to add, “The cheetah is fast; what is another word for fast?” Eliciting alternatives will help ESL students recall words that they use less frequently.
ANTONYMS
Giving the opposing term of the word you’re looking for is another approach to elicit specific sorts of vocabulary. “He’s not sad, he’s…” you can remark, and your ESL students should respond “Happy!” ” Coupling this with miming will provide your ESL students with a very strong hint.
HINTS
If ESL students have trouble creating the word you’re searching for, presuming it’s an old vocabulary term rather than a new one, giving them the initial letter or syllable may help.
